Udaipur?s historic City Palace witnessed high drama on Monday as BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh was blocked from entering the premises, mere hours after being named the ceremonial head of the Mewar royal family. The development came in the wake of his father, Mahendra Singh Mewar?s recent passing, and his formal anointment at Chittorgarh Fort.

The standoff saw a heavy police presence outside the palace, with reports of stones allegedly being thrown from within the premises. Supporters of Vishvaraj Singh attempted to cross barricades but were held back by law enforcement, who had been alerted to potential tensions earlier in the day. The situation stemmed from a long-standing feud between Vishvaraj Singh?s late father and his estranged uncle, Arvind Singh Mewar, who currently manages the City Palace and the Eklingnath temple.

As Vishvaraj Singh planned a visit to these family landmarks as part of royal rituals, Arvind Singh issued legal notices warning against trespassing or property damage. Efforts by senior officials, including Udaipur?s Collector and SP, to mediate between the factions failed to resolve the dispute. With tensions high, police submitted a report to the additional district magistrate, seeking the appointment of a receiver for parts of the City Palace.

Denied entry, Vishvaraj Singh and his supporters moved to Jagdish Chowk, a short distance from the palace, as the centuries-old royal legacy was overshadowed by modern-day conflict.
