Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Saturday raised concerns over the BJP’s flagship financial aid scheme, the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, questioning its viability and impact on Delhi’s overall budget. The scheme promises ₹2,500 per month to all women aged 18 and above, a key poll promise made by the BJP during the Delhi Assembly elections.

Dikshit argued that fulfilling this promise would require ₹21,600 crore annually, which constitutes nearly 60% of Delhi’s total budget of ₹37,000 crore, leaving little room for other essential expenditures such as hospitals, schools, and public infrastructure.

"If they fulfil this promise, we will welcome it. But where will the funds come from? If ₹21,600 crore is allocated solely to this scheme, it will significantly affect development spending," Dikshit told ANI.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Gopal Rai also criticized the BJP, urging the Delhi government to immediately implement the scheme. "Before elections, the BJP guaranteed ₹2,500 to every woman in Delhi. Now, people are waiting for that money to be credited to their accounts," Rai said.

Atishi, along with AAP MLAs and volunteers, had earlier staged a protest against the BJP-led Delhi government, accusing them of making false promises to woo voters.
