In a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Raja Iqbal Singh has been elected as the new Mayor of Delhi, securing 133 out of 142 votes in the recently held mayoral election. Singh will succeed Aam Aadmi Party's Mahesh Kumar Khichi, ushering in a new phase of leadership in the national capital’s civic administration.

Singh, a former member of the Shiromani Akali Dal who joined the BJP amid the nationwide farm law protests, defeated Congress candidate Mandeep, who managed to garner only 8 votes. The result highlights BJP's continued dominance in Delhi’s Municipal Corporation.

In addition to Singh's victory, BJP councillor Jai Bhagwan Yadav was elected unopposed as the Deputy Mayor, further consolidating the party's control over the municipal leadership.

Expressing gratitude after his win, Mayor-elect Singh said, "I assure you that I will work in collaboration with the ruling party, the opposition, and the Congress. Decisions will be made for the development of Delhi without any discrimination." He thanked senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva for their support.

Singh laid out his vision for the city, emphasizing urgent civic concerns. "The main goal will be to improve the sanitation system of Delhi, remove the mountains of garbage, solve the problem of water logging and provide all the basic and essential facilities to the people of Delhi. We will all work together with full dedication and hard work," he assured.
