Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident in Gujarat’s Valsad district that claimed six lives and left several others injured.
In a message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on X, PM Modi conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. The post read, “The loss of lives due to a mishap in Valsad, Gujarat, is saddening. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Praying for the swift recovery of the injured.”
According to preliminary reports, the accident took place in Kaprada taluka when a pickup van carrying wedding guests overturned near Virkshetra village. The passengers were returning to Girnara village after attending a wedding ceremony in Kolvera when the tragedy occurred.
Officials said around 28 people were travelling in the vehicle when it reportedly suffered a mechanical failure while climbing a hilly stretch. The brakes are believed to have failed, causing the driver to lose control. The pickup van subsequently overturned on the slope, leading to multiple casualties.
Local residents, police teams, and personnel from the 108 Emergency Response Service rushed to the spot immediately and carried out rescue operations. Six people were confirmed dead on the spot, while several others sustained serious injuries.
At least 10 of the injured are reported to be in critical condition and have been shifted to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. Authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and registered an accidental death case. A detailed investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the accident.
