A bizarre and shocking incident occurred in Asha Purva village, Jaunpur, during celebrations for Suheldev Jayanti. Mahendra Rajbhar, chief of the Suheldev Swabhiman Party, was publicly slapped by a fellow party member, Brijesh Rajbhar, moments after being garlanded. The incident, caught on video, has rapidly spread across social media platforms.
Mahendra Rajbhar, known popularly as "Kattappa" after being nicknamed so by Prime Minister Modi during a 2017 rally, alleges that the assault was orchestrated by Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, a former ally turned political rival. Brijesh Rajbhar, the assailant, reportedly stated, "We built the party, but you're reaping the benefits," just before the attack.
The political animosity between Mahendra Rajbhar and Om Prakash Rajbhar is longstanding. Mahendra Rajbhar broke away from the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), formerly led by Om Prakash Rajbhar, to establish his own political entity. In the 2017 assembly elections, Mahendra Rajbhar, then aligned with the BJP under Om Prakash Rajbhar's coalition, contested against Mukhtar Ansari but was defeated.
Prime Minister Modi's "Kattappa" moniker for Mahendra Rajbhar stemmed from a rally in Mau where he declared Rajbhar would "eliminate the bahubali (strongman) culture." However, Mahendra Rajbhar has since shifted his allegiance and is now associated with Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party.
Following the public assault, Mahendra Rajbhar has filed a formal complaint with the police at the Jalalpur station in Jaunpur, directly accusing Om Prakash Rajbhar of plotting the incident to humiliate him.
