As tensions continue to rise following India's counter-terror operation Sindoor, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday issued a strong statement emphasizing both national security and food security.
Speaking on the government’s targeted strikes against Pakistan-backed terror outfits, Chouhan asserted, "We will not spare the terrorists; we attacked the terror hotspots but not the civilians." The minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to protecting innocents while taking decisive action against those involved in terrorism.
Switching focus to his ministry's role amid the heightened security situation, Chouhan underscored the preparedness of the agriculture sector. "As the agriculture department, our responsibility is to ensure food security. Our agricultural reserves are full. Whether wheat, rice or other grains, we have sufficient quantities," he said, reassuring the nation that there is no immediate threat to the country’s food supply.
Drawing a parallel between the defense and agriculture sectors, Chouhan stated, "The soldiers are posted on the border, and the scientists are with the farmers in the fields. It is our responsibility to work with the farmers in the fields and increase production."
The minister’s remarks come as the country navigates both military challenges on the western border and domestic responsibilities to maintain stability and self-sufficiency in key sectors.
