Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, in a media briefing on Monday, made a significant revelation about the ongoing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that 60% of the terrorists killed in the region are Pakistani nationals, further highlighting the strong involvement of Pakistan in fuelling terrorism in the valley.

While addressing issues related to northern borders and national security, General Dwivedi said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains "sensitive but stable." He also mentioned that 80% of the active terrorists currently operating in Jammu and Kashmir are also from Pakistan, emphasizing the challenge posed by cross-border terrorism.

General Dwivedi?s statement came as part of an effort to move from a state of terrorism to tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, a goal the government and military have been striving to achieve. He noted that despite progress, the region continues to battle the repercussions of terrorism, largely sponsored from across the border.

"60 percent of terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir are Pakistani. 80 percent of the terrorists active in the state are also Pakistanis, at a time when we are moving towards tourism from terrorism," General Dwivedi stated, underlining the persistent threat posed by external forces.

In addition to addressing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army Chief also touched upon the security concerns along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh. He assured that the situation in the Depsang and Demchok regions of Ladakh had been resolved. As of October 2024, patrolling and traditional grazing activities have resumed in these areas, further easing tensions along the northern border.

General Dwivedi also spoke about the military?s preparedness to handle any situation, emphasizing the balanced and robust deployment along the LAC. The infusion of niche technology into India?s war-fighting system is expected to enhance the Army?s capabilities, allowing it to effectively address challenges on the northern borders.
