India Cannot Stay Silent': Priyanka Chaturvedi Demands Firm Stand On Anti-Hindu Violence In Bangladesh

Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Saturday called on the Government of India to take a clear and public stand on the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, alleging that Hindu minorities are facing targeted violence while New Delhi remains largely quiet.

Raising the issue through a social media post and subsequent remarks, Chaturvedi said reports emerging from across the border point to selective attacks on Hindus amid the widespread protests rocking Bangladesh. She questioned why the Indian government has not issued a strong statement condemning the violence or demanding accountability from Dhaka.

The MP also flagged concerns over border management, asking how undocumented migrants are able to cross into India, while Hindu families fleeing violence are allegedly being stopped. According to her, this contradiction needs urgent clarification, especially when minority communities across the border are living in fear.

Chaturvedi urged the Centre to formally press the Bangladesh government to act against those responsible for the attacks and to send a clear message that India will not ignore violence against religious minorities. She further said the Indian government should reassure Hindus in Bangladesh that all necessary steps, including evacuation if required, would be considered to ensure their safety.

Her comments came as violent protests erupted in multiple Bangladeshi cities following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a radical figure known for his anti-India rhetoric. The demonstrations reportedly spiralled out of control, leading to arson, vandalism, and threats to diplomatic establishments, including the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and its regional offices.

Hadi, who rose to prominence during the 2024 student-led movement that eventually toppled the Sheikh Hasina government, had emerged as a polarising figure in Bangladeshi politics. His death triggered overnight unrest that quickly escalated into widespread violence.
