Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday presented an ambitious blueprint for “Mumbai 3.0” on the global stage at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026, calling it India’s next big investment magnet and a bold step toward building a future-ready world city.

Speaking before international business leaders, policymakers, and investors, Fadnavis said Mumbai 3.0 is not just an expansion of the existing city but a complete reimagining of urban growth. Planned and executed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the new city will be almost three times larger than present-day Mumbai and will open up more than 675 square kilometres of fresh development space in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The Chief Minister stressed that the project is designed to remove long-standing limitations of space, congestion, and infrastructure bottlenecks that Mumbai faces today. According to him, Mumbai 3.0 will offer global investors scale, speed, and stability—three factors critical for long-term investments.

Fadnavis highlighted that the new city will be powered by landmark infrastructure projects, including the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the Atal Setu sea bridge, and an advanced multimodal transport network. These projects are expected to drastically cut travel time, improve logistics, and create seamless connectivity between business hubs, ports, airports, and residential zones.

Officially named the Karnala–Sai–Chirner New Town (KSC New Town), Mumbai 3.0 is being planned as a specialised global city with clearly defined zones. These include Edu City for global universities, Medi City for healthcare and medical research, Sports City, Innovation City for startups and technology firms, and a dedicated Global Capability Centre (GCC) City to attract multinational corporations.

The Chief Minister said the project will be a major engine for job creation, foreign direct investment, and sustainable urban development. He added that Mumbai 3.0 will balance economic growth with quality of life, focusing on clean mobility, green spaces, and efficient governance.

The initiative is being guided by Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA Chairman Eknath Shinde, with the state government reaffirming its commitment to turning the Mumbai Metropolitan Region into a globally competitive economic powerhouse.

On the opening day of WEF 2026, Maharashtra also signed 19 major investment agreements worth an estimated ₹14.5 lakh crore, with the potential to generate more than 15 lakh jobs across multiple sectors. These deals, officials said, reflect growing global confidence in Maharashtra’s infrastructure strength, consumer market, and long-term growth vision.
