Encounter Breaks Out Between Security Forces And Terrorists In Kishtwar

na

A fierce exchange of fire broke out on Sunday between security forces and suspected terrorists in the forested terrain of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, escalating tensions in the remote Chhatru belt. The encounter began when joint security teams launched a search operation in the Sonnar village area near Mandral-Singhoora following specific intelligence inputs.

Officials said the operation was underway around midday when armed militants suddenly opened fire on the advancing security personnel. The forces responded swiftly, leading to an intense gun battle in the dense forest zone. Soon after the firing began, the entire area was sealed off to prevent any escape, and additional contingents were deployed to reinforce the operation.

Security agencies believe that a group of terrorists is currently hiding in the region, taking advantage of the thick forest cover and difficult terrain. Though preliminary inputs suggest the presence of operatives linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit, authorities have not yet officially confirmed the group’s affiliation or the number of militants involved.

The encounter site remains under tight security as search and combing operations continue. Drones and ground teams are being used to track movement in the area, while forces remain on high alert to neutralise any remaining threats.
