In a developing controversy that has swiftly escalated into a political battleground, significant cracks have appeared on the Mumbai-Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), named 'Atal Setu', which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12, 2024. Videos circulating online reveal the cracks, some stretching up to 2-3 feet long.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, constructed at a staggering cost of ?17,840 crore, holds the title of India?s longest bridge and the country's longest sea bridge. Its inauguration was marked by grand celebrations and hailed as a monumental achievement by the BJP-led government.

However, the recent emergence of cracks has triggered a wave of political criticism and public concern. Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole personally inspected the damaged sections of the bridge and voiced strong allegations of corruption against the Maharashtra government. "There is corruption in the whole state. We will present a lot of examples of corruption in the Vidhan Sabha. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is respected by the people of India. But the BJP does not hesitate while doing corruption in his name. Maharashtra has become an ATM for Amit Shah and Narendra Modi. So, they praise Maharashtra falsely," Patole stated.

The Maharashtra Congress has seized upon this incident to highlight broader issues of alleged governmental corruption and mismanagement. Patole's remarks reflect a deepening political rift, with accusations that the BJP is exploiting Maharashtra's resources for political gain.

The video of the cracks has prompted public outcry, raising questions about the safety and durability of the high-profile infrastructure project. The MTHL, envisioned as a critical link to enhance connectivity between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, now faces scrutiny regarding the quality of its construction and the oversight involved.
