Amit Shah’s ‘Give All Tickets To Muslim Women’ Jibe Sparks Storm In Lok Sabha During Women’s Quota Bill Debate

A heated exchange erupted in the Lok Sabha during the debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill after Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a pointed remark on Muslim women’s representation, escalating tensions between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party.

The controversy began when Samajwadi Party leaders demanded that women from OBC and Muslim communities be specifically included in the reservation framework under the proposed legislation.

SP Demands Quota for OBC and Muslim Women

Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav argued in the Lok Sabha that the current bill weakens the spirit of social justice by not ensuring representation for backward and minority women.

The party maintained that it would not support the Women’s Reservation Bill unless OBC and Muslim women were explicitly included.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav also questioned the government’s stand, asking whether Muslim women, who form a large part of the population, should not be considered in the reservation process.

Amit Shah Hits Back With Political Swipe

Replying to the Opposition’s demand, Amit Shah said the Constitution does not permit reservation on religious grounds.

He then took a swipe at the Samajwadi Party, saying:
“Samajwadi Party saari ticketin Muslim mahilaon ko de de, humein koi aapatti nahi hai.”

The remark, suggesting that the SP was free to allot all its tickets to Muslim women, triggered uproar in the House and sharpened the political confrontation over the bill.

BJP Says Religion-Based Quota Is Unconstitutional

The BJP defended its stand by arguing that religion-based reservation would violate constitutional principles.

According to the government, the Women’s Reservation Bill is designed to ensure broader political participation for women and should not be divided on religious grounds.

The ruling party accused the Opposition of trying to politicise the legislation for vote-bank considerations.

Women’s Reservation Debate Turns Into Political Showdown

What began as a discussion on women’s representation quickly turned into a wider political battle over caste, minority rights and constitutional interpretation.

The debate exposed the sharp differences between the BJP and opposition parties on how reservation should be implemented, particularly for women from marginalised communities.

The government introduced three major legislations in the Lok Sabha — the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, the Delimitation Bill, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill — to operationalise women’s reservation.

Parliament Set for Crucial Vote

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced that voting on the three bills will take place after an extended debate, setting the stage for one of the most politically charged legislative battles of the session.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the House, which could further intensify the debate.

With sharp rhetoric and competing narratives around women’s empowerment, the Women’s Reservation Bill has now become a major political battleground ahead of future elections.
