Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers on Saturday reportedly reached the residence of former India cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, one of the seven MPs who recently switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party, and allegedly defaced the exterior walls of his house by writing “Gaddar” (traitor) in black paint, according to reports.
Videos circulating from the spot show the word “Gaddar” written prominently on the walls outside the residence, even as security personnel were present at the location. Harbhajan Singh was not at home during the incident, and there has been no public statement from him so far regarding either the protest or his political shift.
Harbhajan Singh, who built a celebrated international cricket career before entering politics, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2022 by the Aam Aadmi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal. Since his entry into Parliament, he has maintained a relatively low-profile presence in political proceedings.
The incident comes amid a wider political controversy following the exit of seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs, including Raghav Chadha, who have joined the BJP, triggering a major political storm and allegations of betrayal from within the party.
Earlier in the day, Chadha defended the mass resignation, stating that the leaders had not left due to fear but because of deep disappointment with the functioning of AAP, further intensifying the ongoing political war of words between the two sides.
