Amid the sixth phase of voting in India, a significant operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) led to the seizure of a massive consignment of gold in the North 24 Parganas district, close to the India-Bangladesh border. Acting on precise intelligence, the vigilant personnel from the BSF's Gunarmath outpost under the South Bengal Frontier seized 89 gold biscuits weighing a total of 16.067 kilograms, with an estimated market value of Rs 12 crore.

On May 25th, BSF's intelligence unit tipped off the personnel about the smuggled gold hidden in a house in Haldarpada village. "As soon as the information was obtained, a special operation was launched under which the said suspicious house of the village was cordoned off from all sides," said AK Arya, DIG and Spokesperson of South Bengal Frontier to India TV.

The operation unfolded with the BSF cordoning off the target house in the presence of village dignitaries. During the meticulous search, a suspect was apprehended with the gold consignment hidden in a cloth belt. The seizure revealed 89 gold biscuits of varying sizes, meticulously concealed by the smuggler, identified as Alok Paul (name changed).

"The total weight of the seized gold is 16.067 kg and the estimated market value is Rs 12 crore," Arya confirmed. The suspect, along with the confiscated gold, was subsequently taken to the border outpost-Kalyani for further legal proceedings.

This operation underscores the BSF's unwavering commitment to securing India's borders, particularly during the crucial election period. The successful interception of such a significant consignment highlights the effectiveness of the intelligence network and the swift action of the BSF personnel in thwarting smuggling activities.
