Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing both leaders of ignoring Delhi’s worsening air pollution while travelling abroad.
Kejriwal said the national capital is facing a serious environmental crisis, but the country’s top political leadership is not present to address the issue. His remarks came as air quality levels in Delhi continued to remain alarming, affecting daily life across the city.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 361 around 1 pm, placing it firmly in the ‘very poor’ category. Several parts of the city reported hazardous air conditions, raising health concerns for residents, especially children and the elderly.
While pollution levels surged, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in Oman, the final leg of his three-nation tour that also included visits to Jordan and Ethiopia. The Prime Minister has been holding diplomatic meetings and addressing economic cooperation during the overseas visit.
Meanwhile, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is in Germany. He received a welcome from Indian Overseas Congress leaders in Berlin and is scheduled to interact with the Indian diaspora and party representatives from various European countries. Discussions are expected to focus on NRI issues and organisational matters.
Kejriwal argued that when Delhi is gasping for clean air, political priorities should shift towards urgent domestic challenges rather than international engagements. The AAP has repeatedly accused both the BJP-led Centre and the Congress of failing to take decisive steps to curb pollution in the capital.
