Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended congratulations to newly sworn-in V. D. Satheesan and assured complete cooperation from the Centre to the new government in Kerala.
In a message posted on social media shortly after the swearing-in ceremony in Thiruvananthapuram, the Prime Minister wished Satheesan success in his new role and said the Union Government would work closely with the state administration to meet public expectations.
“Congratulations to Shri VD Satheesan Ji on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Keralam. My best wishes for his tenure. The Central Government assures all possible support for the newly formed Keralam Government in fulfilling the aspirations of the people,” PM Modi said.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front returned to power in Kerala after a decade, with Satheesan taking oath alongside a 20-member Cabinet at the Central Stadium in the state capital. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Chief Minister and ministers during the ceremony attended by several senior opposition leaders.
The Cabinet includes prominent Congress leaders such as Ramesh Chennithala, K. Muraleedharan and KPCC president Sunny Joseph. Leaders from the Indian Union Muslim League, including P. K. Kunhalikutty and P. K. Basheer, were also inducted into the ministry.
Top Congress figures including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and K. C. Venugopal attended the ceremony along with chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from Congress-ruled states.
The UDF registered a commanding victory in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections, winning 102 seats in the 140-member Assembly. Congress emerged as the single-largest party, while the Left Democratic Front suffered a major setback. The Bharatiya Janata Party secured three seats in the state.
Meanwhile, PM Modi also wrapped up his visit to Sweden, describing the trip as highly productive for bilateral relations. The Prime Minister said India and Sweden had elevated ties to a Strategic Partnership and launched several new initiatives in technology, innovation and artificial intelligence cooperation.
“My visit to Sweden was marked by several important outcomes that will add new momentum to India-Sweden relations,” Modi said.
He added that both nations agreed on expanding trade and collaboration through projects such as the India-Sweden Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor and Joint Innovation Partnership 2.0.
