At least seven workers lost their lives when a massive soil mound collapsed at a construction site in Gurugram, while four injured workers were rescued and rushed to nearby hospitals. Rescue operations were ongoing in the early hours of Tuesday, with authorities fearing that around ten more labourers remained trapped under debris.

The accident occurred at a site where a sewage treatment plant is being built as part of a new residential project. Investigators said the collapse happened after a wall gave way, causing a basement-level soil cave-in. The mishap reportedly took place between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM on Monday near the Gurugram–Rewari border. However, police were informed only after 9:15 PM when the hospital reported multiple casualties.

Deepak Kumar Jewaria, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Manesar), confirmed that five workers were brought dead to the hospital initially, with additional fatalities later confirmed at the site. Survivors and contractors present during the collapse told authorities that several workers were inside the basement at the time, and at least ten others could still be trapped under the debris.

Civil defence teams, firefighters, and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) immediately launched a large-scale rescue operation. Heavy machinery, high-mast lights, and specialised equipment were deployed to remove debris and locate trapped workers. Senior officials from the police and district administration were also present to supervise and expedite rescue efforts.

The identities of the deceased workers have not yet been confirmed. Authorities stated that an FIR may be registered if complaints are received from the families of the deceased or injured.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams working round-the-clock to recover survivors and bring closure to the victims’ families. The tragic incident highlights ongoing safety concerns at construction sites and has prompted calls for stricter safety oversight.
