Bihar’s political arena is witnessing fresh turbulence as Mukesh Sahani, leader of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), voices growing discontent over the Mahagathbandhan’s seat-sharing arrangement ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Sahani’s dissatisfaction stems from delays by the Congress in announcing candidates for the eight seats allocated to VIP, leaving the party chief feeling sidelined.
According to India TV sources, the Mahagathbandhan had initially promised VIP ten seats, with four additional constituencies reserved for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidates. However, the delay and lack of clarity have escalated tensions, placing Sahani at a crossroads.
This is not unfamiliar territory for Sahani. In the 2020 Bihar elections, he initially aligned with the Mahagathbandhan but switched to the NDA after the alliance failed to meet his seat demands. VIP had contested 11 seats under the NDA, winning four, though the party later suffered setbacks due to internal defections.
With the Bihar Assembly elections slated for November 6 and 11, 2025, and vote counting on November 14, Sahani’s next move could heavily influence the election dynamics. Alliance insiders indicate that RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has taken a firm stance, warning that further demands from VIP may leave the party out of the deal entirely.
