Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited the historic Somnath Temple in Gujarat, offering prayers as part of nationwide observances marking a millennium of the shrine’s spiritual legacy and resilience. The visit coincided with the ongoing Somnath Swabhiman Parv, a special commemoration remembering 1,000 years since the first attack on the temple in 1026.

Arriving in Gujarat for a three-day tour, the Prime Minister was accorded a warm welcome by state leaders before flying to Somnath by helicopter. Soon after performing rituals at the temple, Modi shared his thoughts, describing Somnath as a living symbol of India’s civilisational strength and unwavering faith. He noted that the occasion was not only about history, but also about national unity and cultural self-respect.

“This is not just a temple visit, it is a reminder of our collective resolve and spiritual continuity,” the Prime Minister conveyed, expressing gratitude to citizens for their participation in the commemorative events.

As part of the programme, PM Modi took part in special prayers and reviewed arrangements for the Somnath Swabhiman Parv celebrations. The event reflects on the repeated destruction and reconstruction of the temple over centuries, highlighting its enduring place in India’s cultural consciousness.

The temple town has witnessed a surge of spiritual activity, with hundreds of saints and spiritual leaders from different parts of the country assembling for a continuous 72-hour chanting of ‘Om’. The atmosphere has been further enriched by devotional recitations, cultural programmes, and a planned drone display symbolising the journey of faith through the ages.
