In a significant setback for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the Samajwadi Party (SP) has announced its decision to contest the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections independently. On Monday, SP leader Abu Azmi confirmed that the party is gearing up to contest 150 seats in the upcoming elections and has begun the candidate selection process.
“There is no coordination in MVA, and Uddhav Thackeray has already declared that the alliance will fight the BMC polls separately. Following this, the Samajwadi Party has also decided to contest alone and has started preparations,” Azmi stated.
The SP’s move to go solo further weakens the opposition alliance ahead of the critical BMC elections. Azmi assured that the SP is focused on fielding strong candidates and has directed party workers to intensify election preparations.
