The United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) split the results in the special local body elections conducted across three wards in Kerala. The elections were held to fill vacancies created after the deaths of candidates prior to the regular civic polls.

The UDF emerged victorious in the Vizhinjam ward of Thiruvananthapuram city and the Payimpadam ward in Malappuram district, while the LDF managed to hold on to the Onakkoor ward in Ernakulam district.

In Vizhinjam, the contest proved to be closely fought, with UDF candidate K.H. Sudheer Khan narrowly defeating the LDF contender. The win marked a significant gain for the UDF in the coastal ward of the state capital.

The UDF also registered a clear win in Payimpadam ward of Moothedam panchayat, where Korambayil Zubeida defeated an independent candidate by a comfortable margin, strengthening the front’s position in Malappuram district.

On the other hand, the LDF retained control of the Onakkoor ward in Pampakuda panchayat, with candidate C.B. Rajeev securing victory and preventing the UDF from making further inroads in Ernakulam.

Voter turnout across the three wards remained encouraging, crossing 69 percent overall. Payimpadam and Onakkoor recorded high participation, while Vizhinjam saw moderate voter engagement.
