A devastating rail accident struck northeastern Thailand on Tuesday after a heavy construction crane collapsed onto a moving passenger train, triggering a deadly derailment and fire. The incident occurred along a stretch where work was underway on an elevated high-speed railway line, turning a routine journey into a scene of chaos and destruction.

The train was en route from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani when the crane reportedly gave way and crashed onto the tracks. The impact caused several coaches to jump the rails, with parts of the train catching fire moments later. Thick smoke, flames, and twisted metal engulfed the area, making rescue operations extremely challenging in the initial hours.

Local authorities confirmed that at least 22 people lost their lives in the accident. Several victims were found trapped inside damaged coaches, while others suffered fatal injuries due to the fire that followed the derailment. Emergency responders managed to pull out dozens of injured passengers and rushed them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials said more than 30 people were hurt, though the final number of casualties may rise as rescue efforts continue.
