Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Monday responded to multiple pressing political developments in Bihar, from the dual voter ID controversy to the state’s upcoming domicile policy and the postponement of the party’s "Vote Adhikar Yatra."
Reacting to allegations of possessing two voter ID cards, Tejashwi Yadav asserted that a detailed explanation would be provided. “A response will be given... Many names are missing from the voter list, and we have several irregularities by the Election Commission with us. We will send this to the Election Commission and also present it in court,” he said while addressing reporters in Patna.
The issue has sparked political tension in Bihar, with the BJP and JD(U) demanding an investigation into alleged discrepancies in the voter rolls. Tejashwi’s remarks indicate that the RJD may soon mount a legal and procedural challenge to what it perceives as Election Commission lapses.
On the contentious domicile policy being pushed by the current Nitish Kumar-led government, Tejashwi claimed that it was the RJD that had originally brought the matter to public discourse. “We had spoken about the issue of domicile much earlier and had clearly said that when our government comes, we will implement it,” he said.
Taking a swipe at the ruling alliance, Tejashwi added, “What Tejashwi is saying now, they are just following what we had already proposed. They have no vision or roadmap of their own.” The comment comes amid growing debate over domicile benefits in government jobs and educational admissions in Bihar.
Addressing the sudden postponement of the RJD’s 'Vote Adhikar Yatra', Yadav attributed the change in plans to the recent death of veteran tribal leader and JMM founder Shibu Soren. “After the demise of Shibu Soren, there has been a change in the schedule, but the new date for the Yatra will be announced soon,” he said.
