After days of intense negotiations and internal discussions, the Mahagathbandhan alliance has reportedly decided to project Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, sources said.
The formal announcement is expected to be made later today at a joint press conference in Patna. Speculation about Tejashwi leading the alliance strengthened after posters for the event prominently featured only his image, alongside the campaign slogan — “Chalo Bihar, Badlein Bihar” (“Let’s Go to Bihar, Let’s Change Bihar”) and the hashtag #BiharWantsTejashwiSarkar.
RJD insiders confirmed that all parties within the Mahagathbandhan, including the Congress and Left allies, have agreed to back Tejashwi’s leadership in the 2025 polls. The decision is seen as an attempt to present a unified front ahead of the two-phase elections.
The move comes on the last day for withdrawal of nominations, following multiple rounds of late-night discussions over seat-sharing arrangements that had delayed the coalition’s official campaign rollout.
With the consensus around Tejashwi Yadav now taking shape, the Mahagathbandhan is expected to formally kick off its election campaign immediately after the announcement.
