West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday invoked the legacy of Swami Vivekananda, asserting that the iconic monk’s teachings continue to guide India’s cultural and national identity. Speaking after offering prayers, Adhikari said his visit was driven by respect and reverence for Vivekananda, whom he described as a timeless inspiration for the nation.
“As a Hindu, I came here to offer my pranam to Swami Vivekananda. He clearly said that one should proudly say we are Hindu,” Adhikari stated, underlining what he called the philosopher’s message of confidence, self-belief and spiritual strength. He added that Vivekananda’s words were not meant to divide, but to instil pride and clarity about one’s roots.
Adhikari used the occasion to make a strong appeal to the younger generation, urging them to take responsibility for Bengal’s future. He said the state needs active participation from its youth to overcome challenges and contribute to a stronger India. According to him, Vivekananda’s teachings place youth at the centre of nation-building and social transformation.
“Today’s youth must come forward to save Bengal and strengthen India,” Adhikari said, adding that the monk’s philosophy emphasised courage, discipline and service to society. He argued that remembering Vivekananda is not just about symbolism, but about applying his ideas in public life and governance.
