Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday fiercely criticized Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Chairman SN Subrahmanyan's controversial call for a 90-hour workweek, accusing him of attempting to establish a new era of exploitation in the workplace.

Subrahmanyan's remarks, which he made in an undated video that has since gone viral, sparked a wave of backlash on social media. In the video, Subrahmanyan urged employees to work beyond regular office hours, claiming that working 90 hours a week was essential for success. He further expressed regret that he was unable to make people work on Sundays, saying, ?If I can make you work on Sundays, I will be more happy, because I work on Sundays.?

He also made an insensitive remark about personal relationships, saying, ?What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can the wives stare at their husbands? Come on, get to the office and start working.?

Chaturvedi responded sharply to these comments, posting on social media platform X, "Besides being misogynistic, this statement reeks of wanting to be the new age slave drivers of India."

Her comments were in response to Subrahmanyan's emphasis on long hours as part of what he called "extraordinary efforts required for extraordinary outcomes for the nation."

The statement from L&T attempted to clarify the remarks, suggesting they were meant to emphasize the importance of hard work in achieving national progress. However, the comments have sparked a broader debate about work-life balance, mental health, and the evolving demands of the modern workplace.
