Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar over their response to US President Donald Trump’s recent statements on ceasefire and trade tariffs, calling their language “confusing and evasive.”
Speaking to reporters, Priyanka said, “The words used by the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister are ‘gol-mol’ – unclear and deliberately ambiguous. They are not giving the country a straight answer.”
She echoed Rahul Gandhi’s demand for transparency, stating, “Rahulji said it clearly yesterday – if the US President is lying, just say it. Say it clearly that what Trump said is false. But instead, the government is hiding behind vague phrases.”
President Trump had recently claimed that there was discussion with India over a potential ceasefire agreement and adjustments in trade tariffs. His remarks sparked political controversy in India, with the Opposition demanding clarification from the Modi government.
Priyanka further accused the ruling BJP of compromising India’s diplomatic integrity. “What kind of foreign policy is this where the US President makes such a serious claim, and our leaders don’t even deny it openly? Are they afraid to confront him or trying to cover up something?”
