Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday announced that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate virtually in the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, set to take place later this month in Kuala Lumpur.
Speaking to the media, Anwar said, “We discussed preparations for the ASEAN Summit scheduled at the end of this month. Prime Minister Modi conveyed that he will attend virtually, as the dates coincide with India’s Deepavali celebrations.”
Anwar extended his warm greetings to PM Modi and the people of India, saying, “I respect his decision and wish him and all Indians a very happy Deepavali.”
Sharing details of his recent conversation with the Indian leader, Anwar noted that both countries are committed to taking bilateral relations to new heights. “We spoke about deepening Malaysia–India cooperation across strategic areas including trade, investment, technology, education, and regional security,” he stated.
He further emphasized India’s significance as a key partner in Southeast Asia’s growth story, adding that Malaysia would continue to foster closer collaboration under the ASEAN–India framework.
“Malaysia remains firmly committed to strengthening Malaysia–India ties and advancing ASEAN–India cooperation for a more peaceful and prosperous region,” the Malaysian Prime Minister said.
