Bengaluru witnessed a landmark moment on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the city’s Yellow Line Metro, linking R.V. Road (Ragigudda) to Bommanahalli, extending Bengaluru’s connectivity from the central district to the bustling tech corridor of Electronics City.

After officially launching the 19.15-kilometre service at R.V. Road station, the Prime Minister took a ride to Bommanahalli, accompanied by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, and other dignitaries. During the journey, PM Modi interacted warmly with a group of girl students from government schools, metro construction workers, and project staff. The atmosphere inside the train was lighthearted, with Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar sharing laughter and conversation with the Prime Minister.

In a symbolic gesture of encouraging digital payments, PM Modi purchased his metro ticket by scanning a QR code before boarding. Ahead of the flag-off, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials, along with the CM and Dy CM, briefed him on the project’s development and significance for easing city traffic congestion.

The event drew a notable gathering of political leaders, including Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister Manohar Lal, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna, and Bengaluru Rural BJP MP C.N. Manjunath.

Despite rainfall, thousands of residents gathered at the inauguration venue, chanting slogans in support of the Prime Minister and showering flowers as his convoy passed. PM Modi reciprocated with smiles and waves, making the launch of the Yellow Line not just an infrastructural milestone, but also a day of celebration for the city.
