Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday conveyed his warm wishes to citizens on the occasion of ‘Kharna’, the second and spiritually significant day of the Chhath Puja festival. He prayed for happiness, health, and prosperity for all devotees observing the ritual across the country.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister wrote, “Heartfelt greetings to everyone on the sacred occasion of Chhath Parva’s Kharna Puja. I bow to all the devotees who observe this rigorous fast with devotion and discipline.”
Highlighting the festival’s deep cultural roots, Modi said, “This day embodies faith and self-restraint. On this occasion, devotees traditionally prepare satvik prasad—a simple offering made of jaggery-based kheer. May Chhathi Maiya bestow her blessings on every family.”
In celebration of the festival, the Prime Minister also shared two devotional songs dedicated to Chhath: ‘Sukh leke ugayi, Dukh leke dubayi’ sung by Bhojpuri artist Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’, and ‘Sona Satkuniya Ho Dinanaath’ by folk singer Maithili Thakur.
The Kharna ritual marks a day of purification and preparation for the following main worship days of Chhath. Devotees observe a strict day-long fast without food or water, breaking it only after sunset with offerings to the Sun God (Surya) and a traditional prasad of jaggery rice pudding.
