In a significant escalation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border, the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked small-arms fire on the night of April 29–30, targeting multiple Indian positions in Jammu and Kashmir. The firing occurred across the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors, with Pakistani posts using a range of small arms, including light and medium machine guns and rocket launchers.
Indian security forces responded swiftly and proportionately to the provocation, effectively neutralizing the threat. Pakistani firing was also reported from the Baramulla and Kupwara districts along the LoC, as well as from the Pargwal sector along the International Border, which lies opposite Pakistan's Sialkot region.
Sources suggest that the Pakistan Army has significantly increased its troop deployment, particularly in the Pargwal sector, where the 30 Corps, supported by Rangers, is believed to have manned forward positions. The presence of tanks in the area has raised concerns over the growing militarization of the border. Firing in Pargwal is believed to have been carried out by units under the 8 and 15 Infantry Divisions of the Pakistan Army, headquartered in Sialkot.
Meanwhile, in the northern sectors of the LoC, including Akhnoor, Naushera, Sunderbani, Baramulla, and Kupwara, it is reported that Pakistan has activated its 34 Brigade and elements of the 12 Infantry Division, which is equipped with artillery and special forces units. Intelligence inputs suggest that Pakistan is anticipating possible Indian retaliation and has mobilized additional forces, including its 12th, 19th, and 23rd Infantry Divisions.
