Orange Alert In Mumbai As IMD Predicts Heavy Rain And Thunderstorms

Mumbai, woke up to the sound of rain and overcast skies on June 24 as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officially declared an orange alert for the region. The much-awaited monsoon showers have finally arrived in full force, bringing relief from the summer heat and improving air quality across the city.

The IMD forecasts generally cloudy skies with heavy rainfall throughout the day in Mumbai and the entire Konkan belt. Along with Mumbai, key districts such as Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg have also been placed under an orange alert due to the anticipated intense downpours. These showers mark a significant monsoon phase, nourishing the region’s water bodies and cooling the urban heat.

Weather experts predict that similar weather will persist on June 25, with moderate rainfall expected under cloudy skies. The temperature is likely to range between 25°C to 31°C, maintaining a comfortable monsoon atmosphere for Mumbaikars. Sunrise is expected at 6:03 AM, setting the tone for a rain-filled day.

Beyond Mumbai, the IMD has extended orange alerts to parts of Vidarbha, including Buldhana, Akola, Yavatmal, Amravati, Washim, Chandrapur, Wardha, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, and Gadchiroli. These regions are likely to receive significant rainfall, enhancing agricultural prospects and replenishing water resources.

Meanwhile, Pune and Nashik regions are under yellow alerts, signaling moderate to heavy rainfall. Other districts in Maharashtra remain unaffected and are marked under the green zone, indicating no immediate weather warnings.

In addition to rainfall, air quality in Mumbai has significantly improved. According to the Central Pollution Control Board’s Sameer App, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for today stands at 52, indicating moderate air quality—a major improvement since the onset of pre-monsoon showers in May.
