BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the West Bengal government, citing media reports based on a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report that allegedly exposes targeted violence against Hindus during the Murshidabad incident. He claimed the SIT has "clearly and unambiguously indicated" that Hindu communities were deliberately targeted and that Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders were complicit in the violence.
"According to some media reports, the SIT report on Murshidabad violence has clearly and unambiguously indicated that violence was carried out by targeting Hindus and TMC leaders were involved in it," Trivedi said.
He further alleged that the state police had turned a blind eye to the situation instead of acting to quell the unrest. "The attitude of the police, instead of stopping the violence, seems to be ignoring the actions of TMC leaders," Trivedi added.
Drawing a larger connection, the BJP MP claimed that this was not an isolated incident. “The chain of violence against Hindus by targeting them is clearly visible from Murshidabad to Pahalgam,” he stated, suggesting a broader pattern of communal targeting under the current political regimes in some states.
Highlighting the findings of the SIT, Trivedi alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government has shown “cruelty towards Hindus” and a “dangerous leniency” towards fundamentalist elements. “The way the facts are coming out by the fact-finding SIT in Murshidabad violence, it is showing the cruelty of Mamata Banerjee's government towards Hindus and the immense affection towards the fundamentalists,” he said.
The BJP has been consistently critical of the TMC over law and order issues in West Bengal, especially around alleged communal incidents.
