In a gesture underscoring the depth of India–UAE ties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday personally welcomed UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at New Delhi’s airport, setting aside standard diplomatic protocol. The warm reception, marked by a close embrace, highlighted the importance New Delhi attaches to its strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi at a time of growing regional uncertainty.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed arrived in India for a short but high-impact visit, with meetings scheduled to last only a few hours. Despite the brief duration, the visit is being viewed as diplomatically significant, given the fast-changing geopolitical situation in West Asia and the strong personal rapport between the two leaders.

Shortly after the arrival, Prime Minister Modi described the UAE President as a close friend and emphasised that the visit reflected the priority both nations place on their bilateral relationship. He noted that discussions would focus on strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors and exchanging views on regional and global developments.

The two leaders travelled together to the Prime Minister’s official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, a move rarely seen in high-level diplomacy and widely interpreted as a signal of trust and close coordination. reports indicated that talks were expected to cover political cooperation, economic partnerships, energy security, and regional stability, particularly in light of tensions involving Iran, the continuing crisis in Gaza, and unresolved conflicts affecting the Gulf region.

Several agreements and understandings are also likely to be finalised during the visit, aimed at deepening collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, technology, and strategic coordination. India and the UAE have significantly expanded their partnership in recent years, with the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and growing defence and energy cooperation forming the backbone of ties.
