MK Stalin Dismisses AIADMK’s No-Confidence Motion Against Speaker Appavu: ‘People Will Laugh At This Resolution’

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday slammed the AIADMK’s No-Confidence Motion against Assembly Speaker M. Appavu, calling it baseless and an attempt to divert attention from the government’s achievements.

Expressing his support for the Speaker, Stalin stated, "I am happy with the Speaker's proceedings. Since there is no chance to find fault with the government, such resolutions are brought. This assembly will not accept this resolution."

Further ridiculing AIADMK’s move, Stalin asserted that the motion itself would expose Speaker Appavu’s fair conduct to the people of Tamil Nadu. "People will laugh at this resolution on No Confidence Motion against the Assembly Speaker. People will get to know how the Speaker works through this resolution today. The Speaker's actions have always been impartial. That is why we announced him as the Speaker. He acts without our government or party's influence…"

The No-Confidence Motion was tabled by the AIADMK as part of its criticism of Speaker Appavu’s conduct, alleging bias towards the ruling DMK government. However, Stalin countered this, emphasizing that Appavu had always maintained neutrality in Assembly proceedings.

With the DMK’s majority in the Assembly, the resolution is expected to be defeated without much challenge, further strengthening the Speaker’s position. The AIADMK’s motion, however, highlights the continuing political rift between Tamil Nadu’s two dominant parties ahead of the 2025 state elections.
