On Saturday, May 25, Mehbooba Mufti, the PDP chief and candidate from the Anantnag?Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, alleged that her party workers and polling agents were being detained in police stations without any valid reasons. She also claimed there were attempts to tamper with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). These allegations surfaced as voting commenced in the Anantnag?Rajouri constituency in Jammu and Kashmir during the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
Voting on 58 seats began at 7 am across six states and two union territories and will continue until 6 pm.
Mufti, who is contesting against Mian Altaf Ahmad of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), expressed serious concerns over the treatment of her party members. "PDP workers are being locked up in police stations without any reason. DG, LG, all officials from top to bottom are involved in this. They have locked up PDP polling agents in police stations. You had said that there will be free and fair elections but you are doing all this? Complaints are being received from places that efforts are being made to tamper the machines (EVMs)," she alleged.
In response to these issues, Mufti, along with other party leaders and workers, staged a protest.
Additionally, Mufti reported that her outgoing mobile calls had been suspended without any given reason. "I am not able to make any calls since morning. There is no explanation for this sudden suspension of services on the day of polling in the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency," she claimed.
