Amid the ongoing heatwave conditions in Maharashtra, the state government has revised school timings to protect students from extreme temperatures. As per the Maharashtra School Education Department’s circular, primary schools will now operate from 7:00 am to 11:15 am, while secondary schools will function from 7:00 am to 11:45 am. The directive applies to all schools across the state, irrespective of management type.
The decision comes as Vidarbha battles an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring beyond 40 degrees Celsius. On March 28, Bhandara recorded 41°C, making it one of the hottest regions in the state. Residents are struggling under the extreme conditions, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued high temperatures in the coming days.
However, there is a glimmer of hope as unseasonal rainfall is expected across Marathwada, north, and central Maharashtra, including Vidarbha, in the next three to four days. The government has urged schools to take necessary precautions and ensure the safety of students during this period.
