In response to the severe rainfall impacting Mumbai, Pune, and Raigad districts, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has issued a series of urgent advisories and safety measures to address the escalating situation. The Chief Minister's remarks underscore the gravity of the weather conditions and the state's preparedness to manage the crisis.
Speaking on the current scenario, Shinde highlighted the intense rainfall and its consequences. ?There is water on the roads and in houses of people in Pune. There is a lot of rain at Khadakwasla Dam and in the catchment area,? he reported. The Chief Minister assured the public that local authorities are on high alert, with the District Collector, Municipal Commissioner, and Police Commissioner actively engaged in the response efforts.
To mitigate the impact of the heavy rains, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed to the affected regions. Shinde also revealed that he has coordinated with the Indian Army to ensure that their teams are ready and on standby for potential airlifting operations if necessary. He urged residents to cooperate with the administration and relocate to safer areas if required.
In Mumbai, a significant alert has been issued with an 'orange' warning in place for the next three hours. Shinde has been in constant contact with the Mumbai Municipal Commissioner to ensure that all necessary measures are taken. "222 water pumps are currently working to drain excess water in different areas," he stated. The Chief Minister acknowledged ongoing challenges, including water accumulation on railway tracks in Kurla and Ghatkopar, and efforts to reopen the Andheri subway, which is presently closed.
Shinde advised Mumbai residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors to ensure their safety. He has also contacted the Raigad Collector, directing them to remain vigilant and responsive to the evolving situation.
