In a shocking incident, an Audi car registered in the name of Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule's son, Sanket Bawankule, collided with several vehicles in Nagpur?s Ramdaspeth area late Monday night, according to police officials. The accident occurred around 1 am, leaving several injured, including two moped riders.
Of the five occupants in the car, two individuals?Arjun Haware and Ronit Chintanwar?were arrested at the scene, while three others, including Sanket Bawankule, fled. Preliminary investigations suggest that Haware and Chintanwar were intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Details of the Accident
The Audi first collided with complainant Jitendra Sonkamble?s car, followed by the moped, before striking several other vehicles as it moved towards Mankapur. Sonkamble and other bystanders pursued the car, eventually stopping it near the Mankapur bridge. At this point, three occupants, including Sanket, managed to flee, while the remaining two were detained by the occupants of another vehicle, a Polo car.
Sonkamble, quoted by PTI, said: "The Audi struck more vehicles and then hit a Polo car. Its occupants chased the Audi and stopped it. Arjun Haware and Ronit Chintanwar were handed over to Tehsil police, who later transferred the case to Sitabuldi police for further investigation."
Legal Action and BJP Leader?s Response
A case of rash driving and other offenses has been registered based on Sonkamble's complaint. Haware and Chintanwar were later released on bail.
Chandrashekhar Bawankule acknowledged that the Audi is indeed registered in his son's name and called for a fair investigation. "The police should conduct a thorough and impartial investigation without any bias. Those found guilty should face appropriate legal action. I have not spoken to any police official, and I believe the law must be equal for all," said the BJP leader while addressing the media.
This incident raises concerns about road safety and the potential misuse of influence in cases involving high-profile individuals. Police investigations are ongoing.
