Maharashtra's political climate heated up today as opposition leaders from Congress, Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT), and Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) opposed a tea party hosted by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The event, organized ahead of the monsoon session set to start, faced backlash from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which accused the government of failing to address the pressing issues faced by the people.
CM Eknath Shinde responded sharply to the opposition's boycott, accusing them of avoiding crucial discussions. Speaking to ANI, Shinde stated, "The opposition does not want to have a discussion. This was the last session, therefore we had thought that they (opposition) would come? They are only interested in drama."
Shinde further defended his government's performance, asserting, "The government has worked in two years, and people are aware of that. In the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi has become Prime Minister, and the opposition is celebrating their loss."
The monsoon session, held in Mumbai from June 27 to July 12, will see the ruling Mahayuti alliance present the state budget in both houses of the legislature on June 28. This follows the interim budget tabled in February ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC and Leader of the Opposition in the state legislative council criticized the current administration, labeling it the most corrupt in Maharashtra's history. The opposition's strong stance signals ongoing tension and political maneuvering as the state navigates crucial legislative sessions and budget discussions.
