In a sharp political statement, NCP-SCP leader Jitendra Awhad on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to distort historical facts for political gain, particularly regarding the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the formation of the Indian Constitution.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Awhad said, “BJP always tries to change history and present it in a distorted form. It is incorrect to engage in debates with those who are unaware of what the Congress has done for the nation.”
He went on to highlight the Congress Party's pivotal role in elevating Dr. Ambedkar to national prominence, stating that it was Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru who were instrumental in bringing Ambedkar into the Constituent Assembly and appointing him as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee.
“Who brought Babasaheb Ambedkar to the Constituent Assembly? Who appointed him chairman of the drafting committee? It was Gandhi and Nehru — decisions made by the Congress Party, not by those who now claim to protect his legacy,” Awhad asserted.
