A fresh security and political controversy has erupted in Bihar after a video allegedly showing a Pakistani gangster threatening Chief Minister Nitish Kumar surfaced on social media. The development comes days after Kumar faced widespread criticism over an incident at a government function in Patna involving a Muslim woman doctor.

According to officials, Bihar Police have taken note of the viral video and initiated an investigation to verify its authenticity and assess the seriousness of the threat. Security agencies are also examining whether the individual in the video has any network or influence that could pose a real risk.

In the video circulating online, the man, identified as Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti, is heard issuing a warning to the Bihar Chief Minister and demanding an apology over the incident. The language used in the clip has raised concern, prompting law enforcement agencies to act swiftly.

The controversy is linked to a government event held earlier this week in Patna, where the Chief Minister was distributing certificates to AYUSH doctors. Visuals from the programme showed Nitish Kumar interacting with a woman doctor whose face was partially covered with a hijab. During the brief exchange, the Chief Minister was seen lowering the veil, a moment that quickly went viral and triggered sharp reactions.

Opposition parties seized upon the footage, accusing the Chief Minister of disrespecting a woman’s personal and religious choice. The Congress launched a strong attack, describing the act as unacceptable and questioning the safety and dignity of women in the state. The party also demanded Kumar’s resignation, stating that such behaviour from a constitutional authority sets a dangerous example.

Adding to the criticism, Samajwadi Party’s Maharashtra president Abu Azmi expressed deep disappointment over the incident. He said it was painful to see a leader of Nitish Kumar’s seniority behave in a manner that appeared disrespectful. Azmi stressed that clothing and religious practices are matters of personal choice and should not be interfered with by anyone in a position of power.

Meanwhile, supporters of the Chief Minister have argued that the incident is being exaggerated for political gain and that there was no intention to insult or harm the woman involved. However, the emergence of the threat video has taken the issue beyond political debate, bringing law and order concerns into focus.
