Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over allegations that his British wife, Elizabeth Colburn, has links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.

Dismissing the claims as "laughable," Gogoi said, "If my wife is an ISI agent, then I am a R&AW agent of India." He accused the Assam CM of making such statements to divert attention from allegations against him. “I don’t mind if a family with multiple allegations against them makes accusations against me,” ANI quoted Gogoi as saying on Wednesday.

Gogoi further alleged that the BJP is resorting to baseless accusations as part of a smear campaign, similar to what happened before the last Lok Sabha elections. “The people of Jorhat responded by electing me,” he said, asserting that such tactics won’t work.

With the Assam assembly elections a year away, Gogoi claimed the BJP is on shaky ground. “The Chief Minister fears losing his chair, so he is launching attacks to divert attention,” he added.
