Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Thursday morning after his mother and Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was admitted following respiratory issues, triggering concern across political circles.

Sonia Gandhi was admitted late Tuesday night after experiencing breathing discomfort. According to hospital officials, her condition is currently stable and she is under observation. Doctors have started antibiotics and are conducting further investigations to check for possible infections, including stomach and urinary tract concerns. A team of specialists is closely monitoring her health, and the admission has been described as precautionary to ensure proper medical care.

The development had an immediate impact on Rahul Gandhi’s political schedule. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha cancelled his planned visit to Kerala ahead of crucial elections and instead addressed a rally in Kozhikode virtually. Speaking during the address, he explained his absence and shared an emotional account of the situation.

“I would have liked to come there, but I was forced to stay. Yesterday, my mother was hospitalised and I, as a son, was quite worried about her,” he said. He added that he spent a tense night at the hospital, saying, “Last night, I was extremely worried about my mother’s health.”

In a heartfelt moment, Rahul Gandhi also mentioned that a nurse from Kerala brought him comfort during the stressful night by regularly checking on Sonia Gandhi. He said that the nurse’s dedication reassured him as he stayed by his mother’s side.

Hospital Chairman Dr Ajay Swaroop stated that Sonia Gandhi’s bronchial asthma was mildly aggravated due to a combination of cold weather and pollution in Delhi. He confirmed that her condition is under control and there is no immediate cause for alarm.

This is not the first time Sonia Gandhi has been hospitalised in recent years. She was admitted previously for stomach-related issues and has undergone treatment in Himachal Pradesh as well. Doctors are continuing detailed medical evaluation to ensure a full recovery.
