Tensions have escalated at SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Krishna district after female students accused the college management of attempting to cover up the discovery of hidden cameras in a women's washroom. The students reported the issue to Andhra Pradesh Mines Minister K Ravindra, alleging that the college had threatened them to prevent complaints from being lodged. In response, the minister, accompanied by district officials, assured the students that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
Since Thursday night, hundreds of students have taken to the campus in protest, refusing to attend classes until the matter is fully addressed. The protesters, expressing deep mistrust in the college administration, have vowed to continue their demonstrations until justice is served. Minister Ravindra emphasized that the truth would emerge and that those responsible would be held accountable.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has intervened, ordering a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations. He directed officials to take stringent action if the claims of hidden cameras are substantiated. Despite these assurances, the police have stated that no hidden cameras were found in the washrooms and that there is currently no evidence supporting the allegations. Nevertheless, a special investigation team has been formed, and electronic devices belonging to suspects have been confiscated for examination.
In a bid to reassure students and ensure their safety, the district superintendent of police has promised to enhance security measures at the college. This includes the deployment of female constables in the hostel. Additionally, Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh has called for a thorough inquiry, stressing that strict action will be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
Despite the police's initial findings that no hidden cameras were discovered, the investigation remains ongoing, and heightened security measures are being implemented to protect the students. The situation continues to develop as authorities work to address the concerns raised by the students and ensure a safe environment at the college.
