A tragic accident rocked Nabhoi village in Gandhinagar on Tuesday afternoon when a Kia Seltos carrying five people veered off the road and plunged into the Nabhoi canal. Two bodies, including that of a young girl, have been recovered so far, while three others are still missing and feared dead.
According to officials, the vehicle (GJ03 MR 4783) was fully submerged by the time emergency services arrived at the spot. The Gandhinagar fire department deployed a hydro vehicle and divers to retrieve the car and begin the search for the victims.
“We fear all five people have drowned. We have been able to recover two bodies, and the search is continuing,” said a senior officer from the Gandhinagar fire brigade who is leading the operation.
Eyewitnesses described a horrifying scene. One local resident said, “We heard a huge splash, and by the time we reached, the car had vanished under water.”
Swift currents in the canal have hampered rescue operations, making it difficult for divers to continue their search.
Police have launched a probe to determine how the car ended up in the canal. “We are exploring all angles — speeding, loss of control, or any other factor,” a Gandhinagar police officer stated.
