DK Shivakumar Slams ED Summons As ‘Targeted Harassment’, Vows Legal Battle

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has launched a sharp attack on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after receiving fresh summons over his earlier donations to National Herald and Young India. Speaking at his Sadashivanagar residence in Bengaluru, he alleged that central agencies were being misused to “torture” him and others associated with senior Congress leaders.

Shivakumar said he was “deeply disappointed” by the summons, calling them unnecessary and unjustified. He asserted that he has cooperated with the investigation at every stage but is now being subjected to repeated questioning without reason. “This is nothing but harassment. They want to trouble people who stood by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi,” he remarked, accusing the ED of running a political agenda.

The Deputy CM confirmed that both he and his brother, MP DK Suresh, have been issued fresh notices despite submitting detailed responses earlier. In addition, Delhi Police have asked them to provide more documents before December 19, a move Shivakumar described as “completely uncalled for”.

Explaining the donations under scrutiny, Shivakumar said that contributions to National Herald and Young India were made at a time when these Congress-linked institutions were facing financial distress. He stressed that many party leaders had stepped in similarly, and his actions were transparent and lawful.

He insisted that he has always paid taxes and maintained full compliance with financial regulations.
“The donations were made openly, not secretly. I have not violated any rule. I will fight this legally and prove my innocence,” he stated.
