Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar fiercely responded to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in the state assembly on Wednesday, defending his party’s breakup with the RJD and attacking the Yadav family's governance record. The confrontation came amid opposition protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
Kumar, addressing the assembly, said, “When your father and mother were both Chief Ministers, what did they do for Bihar?” He accused the RJD of failing the people and claimed that his government had focused on empowerment and safety since 2006. “We went with you for a while, but you weren’t doing the right thing, so we left,” he added.
The clash was triggered by Tejashwi Yadav's criticism of the SIR process, which he called non-transparent. Wearing black shirts, RJD leaders accused the ruling JD(U)-BJP alliance of manipulating voter data for electoral gain.
Yadav asked, “If the voter list was fake all these years, is Nitish Kumar himself a fake Chief Minister?” He also questioned the Election Commission’s urgency in conducting the exercise months before polls.
The Election Commission stated that Bihar was selected due to rapid demographic shifts and large-scale migration. It flagged over 43 lakh electors as missing from their registered addresses and said 29 lakh did not return Enumeration Forms.
