In a tragic incident on Saturday, eight people, including two children, lost their lives after a portion of a wall collapsed amid heavy rains in the Hari Nagar locality of Jaitpur, south-east Delhi.

According to police, the victims — mostly scrap sellers residing in makeshift jhuggis near an old temple — were trapped when the wall suddenly gave way during the night. Emergency services rushed the injured to Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS, but all succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Shabibul (30), Rabibul (30), Muttu Ali (45), Rubina (25), Dolly (25), Hashibul, Rukhsana (6), and Hasina (7).

Senior police officer Aishwarya Sharma stated, "There is an old temple here, and next to it are old jhuggies where scrap dealers live. The wall collapsed due to heavy rain overnight. We have now evacuated these jhuggies so that no such incidents occur in future."
