Bomb Threat Targets Mumbai Airport And Taj Hotel; Police Launch Probe, Security Tightened

Mumbai Police have launched a high-level investigation following a bomb threat email targeting the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The email, received on the official ID of the Mumbai Airport Police, has triggered widespread security alerts across the city.

The message made reference to the executions of Afzal Guru and Saibabu Shankar (also known as Saivakkun Shankar), claiming that both were “unjustly” hanged. Citing this as a motive, the sender threatened retaliatory attacks at the two high-profile locations.

Following the alert, security forces, including the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Quick Response Teams (QRT), were immediately deployed to both sites. “All precautionary measures have been put in place. Thorough checks are being conducted at the airport and hotel,” a senior police official said, adding that so far, no suspicious objects have been found.

The threat, although unverified at this stage, has prompted heightened vigilance across Mumbai. Extra security personnel have been stationed at key infrastructure hubs, including major railway stations, ports, and government buildings.

Cybercrime units are now working to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender. “We’re investigating all angles, including any potential links to extremist groups,” an official confirmed.

Meanwhile, both the airport and the Taj Hotel continue to operate normally, though with enhanced security checks for staff and visitors. Officials have urged citizens to remain calm and report any suspicious activity.
